Engineered to Anchor and Elevate
Walls That Hold Ground & Define the Space
Stability That Shapes the Site & the Story
Retaining walls are more than a structural fix. Done right, they become defining features of the landscape. At Brandywine, we design and build walls that handle pressure and create presence. From complex grade changes to integrated seating and transitions, we use natural stone and wet-lay techniques to make sure every wall holds up, and holds meaning.
Built for Structure. Shaped with Intent.
Every wall we build is custom. No prefab blocks. No mass-produced templates. Just site-set stonework engineered to manage slope, guide flow, and create usable outdoor space. Whether it’s a garden terrace, driveway grade correction, or a full hillside rework, we don’t just build walls, we rework the land to work for you.
-
Gain flat, usable ground and eliminate erosion issues on uneven terrain.
-
Add structure and function in gathering areas while keeping the space cohesive and intentional.
-
Turn elevation changes into opportunities for distinct zones and views.
-
Keep paved surfaces stable, secure, and visually integrated with the surrounding landscape.
Our Process: Engineered from the Start
01
Initial Consultation
We walk the site and identify the technical and aesthetic role of the wall. Grade, access, and drainage are all assessed early.
02
Design & Planning Agreement
A paid design proposal (3% of the projected build) includes full concepts, elevations, and feasibility checks, credited to your construction if approved.
03
Technical Design Phase
We finalize material selections, evaluate subgrade needs, and produce drawings if necessary for permits or engineer review.
04
Fixed-Cost Proposal
Once you approve the plan, the price is locked. No surprises, no loose ends.
05
Execution
Our crew handles everything, from excavation and base prep to the final capstone. We stay on your job until it’s done.
“We knew we needed a retaining wall but weren’t sure where to start. Mark walked us through the options and delivered exactly what we hoped for. Helpful, responsive, and professional from start to finish.”

Frequently Asked Questions
-
Brandywine Designs builds custom retaining walls using natural stone and wet-lay construction techniques for applications including grade management on sloped properties, elevated terraces and multi-level patios, integrated seating walls and built-in planters, and structural stabilization for driveways and walkways. No prefab block systems are used, and every wall is designed to function structurally and look like it belongs on the property permanently. The firm's approach treats the retaining wall as a defining landscape feature, not just a utility fix.
-
Retaining walls above a certain height often require engineering review or permits depending on the municipality and the wall's proximity to structures, property lines, or drainage systems. Brandywine Designs addresses this during the design and planning phase, assessing subgrade conditions, drainage implications, and permit requirements before construction begins so that no surprises emerge once the crew is on-site. Clients in Chester County and Delaware communities where Brandywine operates can expect the team to be familiar with local requirements.
-
Wall project timelines depend on site conditions, overall length and height, and the complexity of integration with the surrounding landscape, but Brandywine's crew works continuously once a project begins rather than spreading the work across weeks of intermittent visits. The design and planning phase resolves all technical details in advance, which means the construction phase moves efficiently without pauses for re-evaluation or material changes mid-project. Clients are given a clear project timeline as part of the fixed-cost construction agreement before work begins.
